Corporate Driving Evaluation & Improvement Programs in New Jersey
Mike’s Driving School provides comprehensive corporate driver evaluation and improvement programs for businesses throughout South New Jersey. Since 1993, we’ve helped companies reduce accidents, lower insurance costs, and minimize liability by ensuring their drivers meet professional safety standards.
Why Businesses Invest in Professional Driver Evaluations
When employees drive on company time or in company vehicles, your business assumes significant responsibility. A single accident can result in injuries, lawsuits, increased insurance premiums, vehicle damage, and reputational harm. Professional driver evaluations help you identify and address risks before they become costly problems.
Reduce Accident Rates
According to the National Safety Council, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of work-related deaths in the United States. Companies that implement driver evaluation and training programs see measurable reductions in accident frequency and severity.
Lower Insurance Costs
Insurance companies reward businesses that demonstrate proactive risk management. A documented driver evaluation and training program can help you negotiate lower fleet insurance premiums and reduce claims-related increases after incidents.
Minimize Legal Liability
If an employee causes an accident while driving for work, your company may face negligent entrustment claims — allegations that you allowed an unqualified driver to operate a vehicle. Documented evaluations demonstrate due diligence and can provide crucial legal protection.
Protect Your Employees
Beyond financial considerations, driver safety programs protect your most valuable asset — your people. Employees who receive proper training and feedback are less likely to be injured in preventable accidents.
Preserve Company Vehicles
Skilled drivers cause less wear and tear on vehicles, reduce maintenance costs, and avoid the expense of repairs and replacements from at-fault collisions.
Maintain Your Reputation
Your company vehicles are mobile billboards. Drivers who operate safely and courteously reflect positively on your brand. Drivers who speed, tailgate, or drive aggressively damage your public image with every trip.
Corporate Driver Evaluation Services
Mike’s Driving School offers a range of evaluation services to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes. Each evaluation is conducted by an experienced, NJ-licensed instructor and includes a detailed written report.
New Hire Driver Evaluations
Before entrusting a new employee with company vehicles or driving responsibilities, verify their skills meet your standards. Our new hire evaluations assess:
- Basic vehicle control and operation
- Defensive driving awareness
- Traffic law compliance
- Parking and maneuvering skills
- Highway and city driving competence
- Overall safety judgment
You’ll receive a written report with a pass/fail recommendation and specific observations about the driver’s strengths and areas for improvement.
Post-Incident / Post-Accident Evaluations
When an employee is involved in a vehicle incident, an objective third-party evaluation helps you understand what went wrong and whether the driver is safe to return to driving duties. Our post-incident evaluations:
- Assess current driving skills without bias
- Identify skill deficiencies that may have contributed to the incident
- Determine if remedial training is needed
- Provide documentation for HR and insurance purposes
- Support return-to-driving decisions with professional assessment
Annual / Periodic Driver Evaluations
Many companies implement annual driver evaluations as part of their ongoing safety program. Regular assessments help you:
- Identify skill degradation over time
- Catch bad habits before they cause accidents
- Maintain consistent safety standards across your fleet
- Document ongoing due diligence for liability protection
- Reinforce the importance of safe driving to employees
Executive / VIP Driver Assessments
For executives, sales professionals, or anyone representing your company on the road, we offer discreet, professional assessments that respect the individual’s position while ensuring they meet safety standards.
MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) Review Consultation
We can help you interpret employee MVR reports and determine whether violations indicate a need for evaluation or training. Understanding what MVR entries mean helps you make informed decisions about driver assignments.
What to Expect — The Corporate Driver Evaluation Process
Our evaluation process is thorough, objective, and designed to provide actionable information for your business decisions.
Step 1: Consultation & Scheduling
Contact us to discuss your evaluation needs. We’ll learn about your business, the types of vehicles your employees drive, and any specific concerns. We’ll then schedule evaluations at a time that minimizes disruption to your operations.
Step 2: Pre-Evaluation Briefing
Before the driving portion begins, our instructor will:
- Verify the driver’s license and credentials
- Explain the evaluation process to put the driver at ease
- Review the route and conditions that will be covered
- Answer any questions
Step 3: Behind-the-Wheel Evaluation
The driving evaluation typically lasts 45–60 minutes and covers a variety of driving situations:
- Pre-trip vehicle check — Does the driver inspect the vehicle before driving?
- Basic vehicle control — Starting, stopping, steering, speed management
- Parking maneuvers — Parallel parking, perpendicular parking, backing
- Residential driving — Speed control, awareness of pedestrians and hazards
- Urban/commercial driving — Lane changes, intersections, traffic management
- Highway driving — Merging, lane positioning, following distance, speed control
- Defensive driving habits — Mirror use, scanning, hazard anticipation
- Traffic law compliance — Stop signs, signals, right-of-way
Step 4: Post-Evaluation Debrief
After the driving portion, our instructor provides verbal feedback to the driver, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. This immediate feedback helps drivers understand their performance.
Step 5: Written Report Delivery
Within 48–72 hours, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report including:
- Overall pass/fail or rating recommendation
- Detailed scores in each evaluation category
- Specific observations and examples
- Identified strengths
- Areas requiring improvement
- Recommended training (if applicable)
Reports are confidential and provided directly to designated company contacts. They can be used for HR documentation, insurance purposes, or training planning.

Vehicle-Specific Training
If your business uses specialized vehicles — large vans, box trucks, vehicles with trailers — we can provide training specific to those vehicle types. Employees learn the unique handling characteristics and safety considerations for the vehicles they’ll actually be driving.
Training Documentation
All training is documented with attendance records, training content covered, and individual progress notes. This documentation supports your safety program and provides evidence of due diligence for insurance and legal purposes.

I enrolled both of my children in Mike's driving school—my middle daughter five years ago and my 16-year-old son recently. My son was fortunate to have Mr. Walt as his instructor. Mr. Walt helped him feel more at ease, and by the end of his lessons, my son was very confident in his driving skills. I want to express my gratitude to Mike's driving school and Mr. Walt for helping to create two confident drivers on the road.Posted on Google![]()

How long does each driver evaluation take?
A standard driver evaluation takes approximately 45–60 minutes per driver, including the pre-evaluation briefing, behind-the-wheel assessment, and post-evaluation debrief. More comprehensive evaluations or those covering specialized vehicles may take longer.
Can evaluations be done in our company vehicles?
